M62 aerial photos show extent of ‘serious’ van and lorry crash

There has been a serious crash on the M62 near Leeds after a separate multi-vehicle crash and oil spillage on the carriageway. M62 Eastbound is closed between J28 A653 Dewsbury Road (Tingley) and J29 M1 J42 (Lofthouse) following a crash between a lorry and a van. Emergency services including West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service have all attended to the scene.

For more the latest developments on this crash, click here. The carriageway has been closed since 7.30 today (Monday) and it is not yet known when it will reopen. This crash comes after a separate incident between seven vehicles and an oil spill between J30 and J31 at around 5.30pm.

A statement from National Highways states: “The M62 in West Yorkshire is closed eastbound between J28 Tingley Interchange (Lees, Dewsbury A653) and J29 Lofthouse Interchange (London, Wakefield, The NORTH, M1; Leeds (M621)) due to a serious collision.

“West Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene.”

Inrix, our travel management says: “M62 Eastbound closed, queueing traffic due to earlier accident, a van and a lorry involved and accident investigation work between J28 A653 Dewsbury Road (Tingley) and J29 M1 J42 (Lofthouse).

“The road has been closed since 19:30 do to an accident between a van and a lorry.”
