M6 traffic delays near Cov after lorry sheds load and blocks lanes

Motorists have faced delays this morning on the M6. A lorry has shed a large amount of wood on the northbound stretch of the route between J3 A444 Bedworth Bypass (Nuneaton / Coventry) and J3A M6 Toll. Three lanes are closed due to recovery work in order to remove the load of wood.

Workers are also carrying out barrier repairs. According to the travel website Inrix, only lane four was open as of 7.40am. The website said: “Only lane four (of four) is open after a large amount of wood fell off a lorry and was scattered across the motorway.”

Google maps of the area show the incident has caused a lot of traffic. As of 7.40am, there are around two miles of delays. Elsewhere, traffic monitors are reminding people to be aware of increased traffic later in Coventry for the football.

Coventry City v Preston North End takes place at Coventry Building Society Arena at 3pm. Expect extra traffic on Phoenix Way. This is a live blog.
