Unvaccinated carer in tears on This Morning as she loses job

This Morning viewers have been left divided as an emotional Yorkshire care worker broke into tears after opening up on losing her job over mandatory covid vaccines. Former NHS care worker Louise Akester appeared on the ITV daytime show today to discuss getting the axe and broke down in tears when she was asked by the hosts if she’d ever take her job back. She previously appeared on the show in November last year when it was announced that thousands of care home staff who weren’t fully jabbed would get sacked.

After the Government’s announcement around 60,000 unjabbed carers were at risk of the sack if they did not comply, piling pressure on the creaking sector. Louise was among those at risk and after declining the vaccine she had no choice but to leave her job.

However Mr Javid recently announced that covid vaccination was no longer a must within the health and all social care settings. During today’s episode of This Morning Louise was joined by Rochelle Humes and Vernon Kay who is stepping in for Phillip Schofield who is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid. Since the recent announcement Vernon asked Louise “If they offered you your job back, would you say yes or no?”

As she broke down in tears, she replied: “Now I kind of feel like I was just a number.

It hurts. “When I was there, I was getting all the praise and all the thanks. I felt good because I was there, I was helping.

I was doing my bit. After they said to me, they didn’t want to lose me, I was one of the best workers. All the residents absolutely love you.”

“They said, don’t be a stranger, come visit. Because you still visit if you aren’t vaccinated, just not work there,” she added, “But then when I did go and try and visit, they wouldn’t let me in.”
