Wren kitchens opens strategic transport depot in North East England to reduce road miles and emissions
The new transport site in Rochester has major connectivity benefits to motorways such as the M25, M20 and M2 to reduce mileage and CO2 emissions for the kitchen retailer. This month, Wren Kitchens opens a southeast transport depot in Rochester to cater for increased demand and to further reduce emissions. With connectivity to major motorways such as the M25, M20 and M2, the transport hub can service 25 deliveries every day with a mix of 7.5-tonne and 18-tonne lorries.
It will create over 100 jobs including drivers, porters and operational roles. The new site will operate as a satellite depot, trunking kitchens from its Barton-Upon-Humber manufacturing facility via its major Stansted transport site, reducing 75,000kg of CO2 every year. Wren will invest in a modern open-plan transport office and a dedicated training facility for inductions, driver CPC courses and refresher training on-site.
Wren delivers over 2,000 kitchens every single week via 250 trucks and has a network of seven depots across the UK in Stansted, Bristol, Lanark, Howden, Barton-upon-Humber, Dudley and Manchester. John Wright, Wren Kitchens Vice President of Transport, said: “Our logistics are at the heart of Wren’s success, and as the company continues to grow, so does the need for enhanced connectivity to be closer to our customers across the UK, to ensure we continue to deliver 99.5% on time and in full. “The new Rochester site has been pinpointed to significantly reduce road miles travelling to our customer’s homes – so our teams are spending more time delivering dream kitchens and less time driving to them, reducing our CO2 emissions and supporting our green ethos.”
With winning five Motor Transport Awards last year for excellence in all areas including efficient operations and green innovations, Wren is continuing to improve in all aspects.
One example is the recent switch-over of using environmentally friendly HVO vegetable oil instead of diesel for operational yard vehicles at its Barton-upon-Humber transport hub.
