Banger seized on A1 with front tyre held together by a single nut

An unlicensed and uninsured driver was caught driving an unroadworthy vehicle by police in North Yorkshire. The unnamed driver was spotted driving a van on the A1 by police officers who then stopped the vehicle near Wetherby. Upon stopping him, police discovered the driver only had a provisional licence and was not insured.

But it was another discovery that shocked police officers at the scene. The officers discovered the van’s front wheel could barely rotate, and was dangerously threatening to break off. : Hero truck drivers stop drunk truck driver on the motorway

A video release by police shows the wheel moving in a near zig-zag fashion, while making scary knocking sounds and jerking the van up and down. While another picture shows a completely terrifying set up. The image, also released by North Yorkshire Police, shows the entire wheel held together by a single nut, with three other nuts completely missing from the wheel.

Taking to Facebook, the police called the grim discovery a disaster waiting to happen: “A disaster waiting to happen – and an unbelievable disregard for road safety.

“Look at the state of that wheel.” The police understandably expressed worry about what may have happened if the wheel had come off on an A road. They said: “Just imagine the consequences.

Thankfully our roads policing officers got to him first.

“Had the wheel come off the van at speed and on the A1, it will have caused significant damage to the roads and barriers.

But more worryingly, it could have led to serious injuries or deaths.”

North Yorkshire Police says the van has been seized.
