Huge Wakefield fire sends black smoke billowing across Yorkshire

A large fire has reportedly broken out in the Wakefield Road area of Ossett. Numerous reports of the blaze were shared on social media on Monday afternoon, with Wakefield Council also addressing the news and asking residents in the area to remain safe due to the increasing amounts of smoke. In a tweet they said: “We are getting reports of a large fire in the Ossett area.

The fire is believed to be at the scrap yard on Wakefield Road, although is still unconfirmed, with one local even being able to see the smoke as far away as Lindley. “It is large. I can see the smoke from Lindley, Huddersfield,” said Chris Borrill.

10 pumps have been sent to the scene to tackle the blaze, with the hose layer from Mirfield also sent to the scene.
