Following the diversification into general haulage eight years ago, GH Davies Farms of Shrewsbury is further expanding its tipper fleet with six new Fruehauf trailers. In addition to hauling their own commodities, the company works for major grain merchants as well as local quarries. The new trailers will cover an average of 120,000 kilometres per annum, delivering and collecting nationwide, although predominantly in England and Wales.

Today the company operates nine trucks and ten trailers and the order for six are all replacements. The order was given to Fruehauf because they could guarantee quick delivery. The contract was placed in November, so very fast delivery times, explained owner, Harry Davies. “They are all 70 cubic yard capacity trailers with a 12 inch dome.

In addition, they all have power operated tailgates and easy sheet systems, everything to make the driver’s life easier,” he added.

The company is moving away from ribbed sided tipping trailers to smooth sided and reports that early indications are the change will yield savings of 0.5 mpg minimum, but could be as much as 0.7 mpg.

The detailed specification includes a performance chassis, PM/VPG weighing systems, SAF disc axles and Durabrite wheels.
