Russia Ukraine war updates as Putin threatens UK and Hull rallies support
The conflict in Ukraine has taken increasingly desperate turns over the weekend with the Russian military failing to honour a ceasefire and shelling fleeing civilians. Residents fleeing west from the embattled city of Mariupol found that not only was their route littered with mines but they also came under active fire despite talk of a ‘humanitarian corridor’. Russian has since clarified its position on humanitarian corridors indicating it would honour those into Russia and Belarus, to widespread condemnation from the international community.

Here in Hull and East Yorkshire, humanitarian efforts to get aid to those in need in the war-torn country are ongoing with Humber Rescue one of the many organisations rallying to the cause. Their donation centre in the old PC World unit on St Andrews Quay is desperate for boxes and volunteers after a flood of donations.
Elsewhere many schools and community groups are coming together to help with multiple vehicles full of aid already sent to Ukraine from this region.
