Praise for M62 heroes who rescue girl from burning lorry in crash

Two men were seen climbing a jack-knifed lorry to save a girl inside after it was involved in a crash with a car on the M62 in East Yorkshire. A witness has praised the men’s heroic rescue attempt following the major crash on the motorway near Goole on Wednesday morning. The serious crash closed the M62 for several hours.

Motorist Paul Jackson was on the motorway when he spotted the ‘heroes’ rushing to pull the young female passenger from the cab of the lorry after it collided with a car on the eastbound carriage, resulting in a vehicle fire. According to the witness who stopped at the scene himself to help, the car had burst into flames which had spread to the lorry. Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, Paul, who is ex-military, said: “The truck was on fire and these two men smashed the window and pulled this girl out – she was aged around 12 or 13.

They were absolute heroes. : Car and lorry burst into flames in horrific M62 crash “I saw this black smoke when I was driving so stopped to help.

People were running towards the back of the car, which was on fire. “The truck had jack-knifed to they had to claim onto the trailer to get to the cab. They saved her life.

The fire was engulfing the truck.” The condition of the lorry driver is currently unknown and Humberside Police are yet to provide an update into whether anyone was seriously injured. Police have been at the scene of the collision throughout the day, with the eastbound carriage remaining open into the evening.

Paul added: “I checked her head as there was a lot of blood, then put her in the recovery position and we asked for her to be taken away from the scene.

There were explosions coming from the car.”

Both carriageways were re-opened later on Wednesday evening and traffic is reportedly now back to normal.
