Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson tours the North York Moors for new BBC show
Former England footballer and popular Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson will be taking viewers on a trip across the North York Moors for a new BBC show. Arsenal legend Paul Merson explores the beauty of his adopted home in the north in the series titled ‘A Walk Through My Life’. Paul used a 360-degree camera to record his stroll, opening up about mental health, his battle with addiction, and his road to recovery along the way, GazetteLive reports.
The 54-year-old moved to Yorkshire after signing for Middlesbrough in 1997, reportedly turning down a contract at Arsenal for the opportunity to play on higher wages and for a longer contract on Teesside. However, he left not long after the start of the 1998-99 season when he was sold to Aston Villa. : Scarborough woman tells how perfect relationship ended with jealous violent thug stabbing her 11 times after Googling murder
In the show, Paul’s walk takes him through Lastingham in North Yorkshire, a quaint little village on the fringe of the moors. He finishes his walk at Surprise View at Gilamoor, not far from Kirkbymoorside. Along the walk, Paul discusses the power of religion in his life, and how he battled his issues with alcoholism and gambling.
The former footballer opens up about the “loss of time” he can never get back, but how he now feels “present and in the moment” thanks to family support and therapy.
Although the show helps Paul delve deep into some of his past troubles, the show’s description says he “maintains his infectious laugh and energising spirit throughout.” You can watch Paul Merson – A Walk Through My Life on Thursday, May 5, at 8pm on BBC Two.
