Road Transport Expo 2022: Volvo Trucks out in force at brand-new industry show

Visitors to the inaugural Road Transport Expo will have the opportunity to drive a wide selection of Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty range, as well as the zero-emission Volvo FL Electric. The new show – held at NAEC Stoneleigh from 30 June to 2 July – is dedicated to the HGV sector, with specialist product talks, business conference seminars, live demonstrations and Ride & Drive opportunities packed into what promises to be a very busy three days. As well as having a fleet of vehicles in the Ride & Drive zone, Volvo Trucks will be present within two dedicated display areas at the event.

In the outside display area (Stand OUT47), static exhibits will include Dynes Recovery’s brand-new Volvo FH 540 8×4 recovery truck, a Volvo FL 250 4×2 skip truck belonging to EMS Waste Services, Maritime Transport’s ultra-fuel-efficient Volvo FH 460 with I-Save, as well as Volvo’s flagship FH16 750 demonstrator. There will also be Volvo Trucks’ hospitality and merchandise trailers, fully stocked with official Volvo merchandise for visitors to purchase. Inside the Urban Zone in Hall 1 (Stand L5), attendees will be able to get a close look at Fox Group’s new Volvo FE Electric 6×2 rigid – the UK’s first operational battery-powered tipper.

The Volvo FE Electric is plated at 27-tonnes – one tonne more than a standard three-axle rigid – which helps to offset the additional weight of the batteries. Mounted with Thompsons tipper bodywork, it features a day cab, full air suspension and a hydraulically-steered rear axle for exceptional manoeuvrability and is decked out in a striking new Fox Group livery, highlighting its green credentials. The powertrain consists of two electric motors and a two-speed gearbox, with power being generated by an electric motor with an output of 400 kW.

If that wasn’t enough, Volvo will also have four trucks available for the Ride & Drive element of the show. Registered participants will be able to get behind the wheel of the compact and agile Volvo FL Electric 4×2 – ideal for urban distribution. The powertrain of the battery-powered FL consists of an electric motor and a two-speed gearbox, with power generated by an electric motor with an output of 200 kW and 425 Nm of torque.

Also available at the Ride & Drive zone will be a fuel-efficienct Volvo FH with I-Save 460 6×2 tractor unit; a construction sector favourite – the Volvo FMX 8×4 tipper; as well as a Volvo FM 380 6×2 rigid.
