Why Beaverbrook is the place to be this Great British Summer

Gastronomes will be delighted at the food on offer too: in the Japanese Grill, expect exquisite sushi and yakitori served with haute cuisine flair in a grandiose setting (think grilled turbot with edible ants), while down at the Garden Restaurant, you’ll find simpler Anglo-Italian dishes, like salad from the kitchen garden, melt-in-the-mouth spring green risotto and honeycomb ice cream. For summer, the hotel has brought back its beloved stationary Hot Air Balloon tables too, for al fresco diners to enjoy a la Phileas Fogg. Peckish mid-afternoon?

Head to the ice cream truck for a free cone – or better yet, whet your whistle with a martini from the Tanner Krolle truck. If you’re not into martinis, then the bar has a signature tipple in honour of Her Maj, The Zaza, an imitation of the Queen’s favourite drink, a Dubonnet and gin.

At bedtime, you’ll be happy to wander upstairs to your room, all named after Lord Beaverbrook’s famous guests, from the Duchess of Windsor to Winston Churchill. Inside you’ll find everything you need for a cosseting night’s stay, from ample snacks (including sloe gin and mint humbugs) to a roll-top bath tub with Bamford toiletries.

All that is left to do is to decide how to wile away the next day…
