Woman left with ‘potentially life-changing injuries’ following pile-up on A27
A WOMAN has been left with “potentially life-changing injuries” following a three vehicle pile-up on the A27 this morning. The incident happened around 10.30am this morning westbound near Gainsborough Lane in Polegate. A Mini appeared to be cut open to get one person out, while another car was on the new A27 cycle lane.
A truck could also be seen on the westbound side. An air ambulance was called initially but the woman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Eastern Road by road ambulance. The incident happened at around 10.30am this morning
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police received a report of a collision on the A27 near Polegate at around 10.30am on Monday, June 27. “The collision involved multiple vehicles and resulted in a road closure in both directions. It has since re-opened.
“A woman, driving one of the vehicles, was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. “Anyone with dashcam footage or information, is urged to email [email protected], quoting serial 491 of 27/06.” A Mini appears to have been cut open to get someone out
There were large queues on the road but the road was reopened this afternoon after the scene was cleared up. All emergency services were at the scene initially. A South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) spokesman said: “I can confirm that Secamb was called at approximately 10.45am today to reports of an road traffic collision on the A27 at Gainsborough Lane, Polegate.
“Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance Service.
“A woman was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital by road.”
