Car crushed under lorry that struck railway bridge in Farnham

A car was left crushed under a lorry that rolled onto its side after it struck a bridge in Farnham. Police said the HGV was in collision with the protection bar of the railway bridge on Wrecclesham Road on Monday evening (July 11). The Nissan Qashqai was pinned under the trailer of the HGV after it overturned at around 6pm.

The driver had to be cut free from the car and was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. The incident prompted a huge emergency service response, with the South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Fire and Rescue all called to the scene. A specialist heavy goods vehicle recovery company was also called in.

Police said in an appeal for information: “This combined effort ensured the safe release of the female driver of the Qashqai who has sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital. The road remains closed for vehicle recovery at present and further updates will follow. “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any dashcam footage to please contact us quoting reference number PR/P22144939”.
