Cinemas forced to ban teens in fancy dress for new Minions film
Some UK cinemas have been forced to ban groups of teenagers in suits from watching Minions: The Rise Of Gru because of ‘rowdy’ behaviour. The film was released on Friday after being delayed due to the pandemic and it is the latest in the Despicable Me series. The ban on youngsters in suits comes after fans were slammed for their behaviour in the cinema whilst watching the film.
That comes after a video showing people being rowdy went viral on social media platform TikTok. The latest trend on the social media platform involves large groups of teenage boys recording themselves as they watch the film in suits and they are calling themselves ‘The Gentleminions’. Despite its popularity, it is not clear where and how the trend started.

The videos on the trend have been viewed over a million times on TikTok and the teenagers in the video can be heard saying “the five-year wait is over”.
Alongside that, some keen fans of the Minions are taking bananas into the cinema to eat during the film. That is because bananas are of course the Minions favourite food. Some of the videos that have gone viral on the social media platform show people taking part in the trend clapping and cheering loudly as well as being disruptive throughout the film.
As a result of that some cinemas have brought in a dress code for people wanting to watch the film. An independent cinema that is based in Cornwall has stopped any unaccompanied children in a suit from watching the hit film. The Regal Cinema have said: “We are currently not admitting unaccompanied children wearing suits for ‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru’.
This is due to the issues we have encountered over the last two days and its associated behaviour.” They are not the only ones with restrictions as a spokesperson for the Odeon cinemas told the PA news agency: “Due to a small number of incidents in our cinemas over the weekend we have had to restrict access in some circumstances.” Despite the behaviour Universal Studios who have produced the film have endorsed the Gentleminions trend.
They posted on Twitter and said: “To everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you.”
