Live updates as lorry fire forces M1 to close near Coventry
A lorry travelling down the M1 has caught fire. The vehicle was on the motorway heading northbound between junction 16, Daventry and 17, near the Dunchurch, Coventry exit when it caught alight. Smoke can be seen filling the sky as the fire started around 3.30pm this afternoon (July 12).
CoventryLive understands emergency services are at the scene. Firefighters and Police have both been scrambled to the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
All four lanes are closed so the fire can be safely put out. Traffic is backed-up to junction 15A. Traffic site Inrix says: “Long delays, all traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic due to lorry fire on M1 Northbound between J16 A4500 (Daventry) and J17 M45 (Dunchurch / Coventry).
Congestion to J15A (Northampton Services). “Cameras show traffic has been held in all four lanes again.” This is a live blog.
