Crash closed road near Guildford town centre
Part of the A281 Shalford Road was closed in both directions on Monday (August 1) after a crash. The incident is believed to have happened shortly before 10am and there was heavy congestion in both directions. The affected section of road was between Pilgrims Way and Chantry View Road, which is approximately halfway between Guildford town centre and Shalford village.
Vehicles were queuing up to both of those places as a result of the closure, and Surrey Police had asked road users to find alternative routes. Shalford Road runs along the River Wey south from Guildford into Shalford. It then continues down towards Bramley and Dunsfold, and is the main route for traffic from those places looking to head into Guildford, other than taking a significant diversion west to the A3.
