‘Funny, caring’ man, 33, killed in horror crash
An inquest has opened following the death of a biker in Bolton. Damien Deluce, 33, was killed in a crash on Manchester Road, Westhoughton, on July 19, Bolton Coroners Court heard. Police coroner’s officer Julieann Hyde told the inquest that Mr Deluce suffered fatal injuries after his motorbike “collided with the rear offside quarter of a van”.
She said: “On Tuesday 19 July 2022, Mr Deluce was riding his motorcycle along Manchester Road in Westhoughton, Bolton. At the same time a van was travelling in the same direction. READ MORE : Full inquest set for healthy young man, 20, who died weeks after tragic diagnosis
“The van turned right at Manchester Road and Mr Deluce collided with the rear offside quarter of the van. Mr Deluce was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene.” Mr Deluce, a storage facility worker from Little Hulton, was pronounced dead at 12.50pm.
Following a post mortem, the provisional cause of his death has been recorded as ‘multiple injuries.

Ms Hyde confirmed that Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the crash. The driver of the truck – a man aged in his 60s – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation. Following his death, Mr Deluce’s older sister paid tribute to him.
She told the Manchester Evening News : “As a family this has been sudden and such a terrible shock to everyone. “Damien is our little brother, 13 months younger than myself. He was such a funny, caring young man with the world at his feet and a heart of gold.
He always had a job and loved to keep busy. He was the type of lad that would drop everything he is doing to help the elderly cross the road. “Damien has a large family of 12 siblings who miss him very dearly.
Damien had such a close bond to his big brother Ray and his little brother Derek. “Overall Damien was such a joy and pleasure to be around. Damien was the doting son of Fred Deluce and Wendy Wallwork and they love him very much.”
Area coroner Prof Alan Walsh adjourned the inquest to be reviewed on November 4.
