Lorry driver killed after vehicle overturns on A13 in heavy rain

lorry driver has been killed after his vehicle careered through a barrier on the A13 and overturned. The victim, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash in wet conditions at 6.10am on Thursday. Dashcam footage shows the lorry on its side in the fast lane with a damaged crash barrier seperating the west and eastbound lanes at the Ferry Lane interchange in Rainham.
Witnesses reported the driver being trapped in his cab for more than an hour.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of an overturned lorry on the eastbound A13 at the Ferry Lane Interchange. “A man aged in his 50s, who was driving the lorry, was pronounced dead at the scene. “Offices are in the process of informing his next of kin.
“No other injuries were reported.” The eastbound carriageway is closed between the Ferry Lane Interchange and the Wennington Interchange. Drivers are encouraged to find an alternative route and traffic is building.
It came as travel chaos struck the capiral as torrential rain fell on London on Thursday morning. Five flood warnings are in place across the capital, while a yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued across the city and the south-east. TfL said on Twitter about 6am that Dagenham Heathway Underground station was closed “due to heavy flooding” while exits one and two are also shut at Charing Cross.
