Truck driver charged over cycling crash death of No10 aide’s husband

truck driver has been charged after the husband of a top Downing Street aide was left fighting for his life from a horror cycling crash. Barry Duffy, 52, is accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in the collision with Alex Finn on August 12 last year. Mr Finn is the husband of Baroness Finn, who has been Boris Johnson’s chief of staff since July and a key advisor during his time in Downing Street.
He was badly hurt while cycling along Primrose Hill Road in Primrose Hill at 6am, when he was struck by Duffy’s 7.5 tonne truck at the junction with Adelaide Road, it is said. At the time of the crash, Scotland Yard confirmed: “The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition. The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.”

Mr Finn was a partner at accountancy giant PwC, where he worked from 1983 until his retirement in June this year.Duffy appeared at Highbury Corner magistrates court last week to face the charge for the first time, pleading not guilty and electing a trial by judge and jury.
His case was sent to Wood Green crown court for a preliminary hearing on September 19.
According to the charge, Duffy, from Haverhill in Suffolk, is accused of “causing serious injury to Alexander Finn by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle, namely a blue DAF 7.5 tonne truck, dangerously on a road”.
