A14 partially reopens after serious crash between lorry and motorcycle
Published: 7:06 AM September 21, 2022 Updated: 12:34 PM September 21, 2022 The A14 just outside of Ipswich has partially reopened after a serious crash involving a motorcycle and lorry.
Emergency services are currently at the scene of the accident near Sproughton. Initially a spokeswoman for Suffolk police said that the eastbound carriageway was closed between Sproughton and Copdock Interchange. It was then confirmed that both carriageways of the A14 had been closed.
The extent of any injuries is not yet known. The incident has caused lengthy queues on the roads in Ipswich. In a Tweet, National Highways initially said: “The A14 near Ipswich is now closed in both directions between junction 54 and junction 55 following a serious collision.
“Suffolk police remain at the scene.”
The spokeswoman has since confirmed that the westbound carriageway has since reopened but the eastbound remains closed.
Drivers using the eastbound carriageway are being advised to follow the below diversion route:
- Exit the A14 at J52 Claydon and take the 4th exit onto the B1113 (Bramford Road).
- Continue on the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton to the roundabout with the A1071.
- At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1071 and continue to the junction with A1214.
- Turn right at the junction and follow the A1214 to re-join the eastbound carriageway at J55 Copdock Mill.
The diversion route for the westbound carriageway was the eastbound diversion route but in reverse order.
