M1 traffic live after trailer fire raged for hours on near Northampton
The northbound carriageway of the M1 near Northampton has now fully reopened after a trailer fire that raged for several hours. It was first reported by National Highways shortly before 5.45pm on Monday (September 12). The fire was eventually extinguished by 1am on Tuesday morning, but the blaze proved a challenge for for firefighters.
While one lane of four was reopened, traffic kept being being periodically stopped to allow the Fire Service to return with more water. National Highways said: “The HGV trailer contains small plastic appliances. Due to the nature of the load, bringing the fire under control is taking a considerable length of time.
The lane closures are expected to be in place throughout the night.”
