Filming in Surrey town and people think they know the movie
A gathering of apparent film trailers in Reigate has prompted speculation over what movie or TV show is being shot. Photos taken on Saturday (October 14) in the car park behind the Old Town Hall show multiple vehicles. Although it is not yet known for sure what is being filmed, people have taken to Twitter with their own ideas.
One user thinks the “movie filming currently in Reigate : The Great Escaper with Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson” and EcoEarlswood posted: “I heard Universal was filming in Reigate today?” While Sophie Rumble tweeted on the same day: “Huge film crews at the Town Hall today. I presume that’s what they are, Reigate is the new Hollywood apparently.
Rotten weather for it though.” READ MORE: Reigate’s empty shops and what is going to happen to them In a separate post she added: “Somebody on Facebook said it’s this new Michael Caine film, lots of locations appear to be being used simultaneously with a fair bit of kit..”
Sophie told SurreyLive : “I was driving to my work at a flower shop in Redhill and went round a one-way system and saw them all. At first I thought they were back there for Covid because that’s where they used to do the testing. “I thought ‘oh what’s going on here then?’ and there was so much activity happening that I thought it was that until I got a bit closer and realised there was a catering unit and a double-decker truck of some description.
So it was obviously something a bit more interesting.”

She said it was “exciting” to possibly have someone like Sir Michael Caine in town but noted that he is “pretty local anyway”. Earlier this year Sir Michael sold his mansion in Leatherhead for a reported GBP3.5million after living there with his wife since 1999. Sophie, who lives in Reigate, added: “It’s nice to see a lot of activity on the doorstep and good to see local places all getting used for locations.
It seems to be happening more and more. My little boy goes to school locally and saw lots of filming in Mickleham recently as well. It’s been used a lot around here, which is nice.”
The 46-year-old said she would recommend Sir Michael visits somewhere in Reigate with “nice coffees and cakes” like Canakin. She added: “They are a beautiful independent coffee shop that does amazing cakes and goodies.” Sophie also suggested Lebanai, a “nice” Lebanese restaurant on Church Street that also offers takeaways.
SurreyLive also contacted businesses in the area close to the film trailers. A worker at Coughlans Bakery, who wished to remain anonymous, told us they had driven past the vehicles in the car park but had not seen anyone famous.

This is not the first time that filming has taken place in the Old Town Hall. In August, the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Cllr Frank Kelly, posted on Facebook that it was in the scene of a popular TV show.
He wrote: “Did you know the Old Council Chamber in Reigate Town Hall was recently used as a filming location for the ITV show The Larkins? Bradley Walsh and Joanna Scanlan star as Pop and Ma Larkin in season 2 of the drama, based on H.E. Bates’ novel ‘The Darling Buds of May’.
“We think that Reigate Town Hall, a beautiful Grade II Listed building makes the “perfick” filming location.”
