CCTV solves mystery of missing bin which was swallowed by truck

A mystery surrounding a missing recycling bin was solved when householders checked their CCTV and found it had been ‘swallowed’ by a recycling truck. James Crossland said he was were confused after his new recycling bin disappeared after collection day. He knew he’d left the bin outside his home in Oakley Drive, Warwick on Thursday, but then could not find it after refuse workers had made their rounds.

He said: “After checking with all our neighbours it was still missing. However I have just checked our CCTV footage, and can see that the bin is actually “swallowed” by the bin lorry without the bin men noticing.” READ MORE:Lidl rationing vital product to three items per customer – with Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury’s likely to do same

James has asked the council to carry out an investigation into the incident and to provide a new recycling bin free of charge. He said: “We are fortunate to have CCTV to confirm what has happened but not all members of the community will have and would have been forced to pay for a replacement.” A Warwick District Council spokesman confirmed to CoventryLive they will be sending Mr Crossland a replacement bin. “On the odd occasion that this has occurred it is usually logged by the recycling crew and we arrange for a replacement bin to be delivered,” the spokesman said.

“We will ensure that the incident has been logged and then we can organise for a replacement to be delivered to the household as soon as possible.

We would like to apologise to the customer for any inconvenience.”
