Huge nuclear convoy spotted making its way through Coventry and Nuneaton

A huge convoy thought to be carrying nuclear weapons stunned motorists and householders as it passed through Coventry and Nuneaton. There were reports of the heavily guarded cavalcade of big blue police vans and big brown vans spotted on Monday (November 21). Residents in the Whitestone area of Nuneaton r eported seeing it heading along Lutterworth Road towards the nearby Gamecock Barracks in Bramcote.

Video footage also emerged on social media of a similar convoy making its way through Coventry on the same day. “Happens all the time. Nuclear weapons being transported,” one person commented.

This was shared on Facebook forums in Nuneaton and one person wrote: “They stop at Bramcote for lunch and a comfort break. Left the barracks about 2.45pm.” Another said: ” They use Bramcote as a rest point on their journey, apparently.”

It is not the first time that a similar convoy, reportedly carrying nuclear weapons, has been seen in the area. Back in September 2020 CoventryLive reported that large military trucks and police in armoured vans swept through Longbridge Island near Warwick. Nuclear convoys typically include four large trucks, armed police, Royal Marine Commando and Ministry of Defence (MoD) guards, a fire engine, decontamination and workshop coach and other support vehicles, according to group Nukewatch.

CoventryLive has contacted Warwickshire Police in regards to the appearance of the convoy in Nuneaton.
