Icy temperatures set for Cov as parts of UK braced for high winds
Forecasters have warned that Britain is set for a cold and blustery start to the week with temperatures set to plummet to -4C. But those hoping for a sprinkling of snow will be left waiting as two areas of low pressure moving across the Atlantic will bring ‘very wet and windy weather ” to parts of the UK. In fact the Met Office, reports the Mirror, has issued a number of weather warnings for parts of the country with a yellow wind warning for south-west England and South Wales for 12 hours today with gusts of 70mph to 80mph expected in coastal areas.
Coventry and Warwickshire is set to escape these high winds today but the cold weather is going to kick in today (November 21) with lows of -1 later tonight. Speaking yesterday, Alex Burkill, Met Office meteorologist, said: “We’ve got two areas of low pressure that are coming towards the UK tonight and into tomorrow. First one’s towards the north west of Northern Ireland and the second one’s coming up in Ireland and south-west England.
“They’re going to bring some very wet and windy weather.” Temperatures were also expected to drop to as low as minus 4C (24.8F) in parts of the country early on Monday, posing some problems for motorists amid ice and fog.
“It’s going to be quite cold towards particularly north-eastern UK,” he added.
