Starbucks to make comeback to Nuneaton town centre

Starbucks is set to make a comeback to Nuneaton town centre. It has been several years since the chain closed its shop in the town centre. The coffee giant did not leave the town altogether, setting up a drive-through restaurant at Bermuda Park in June 2018.

But now it appears that the big brand will be opening a new venue in the town centre in a prominent building. A planning application has been submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council seeking the green light for approval for the one internally illuminated fascia sign and one internally illuminated projecting or hanging sign at 7 Market Place. CoventryLive inspected the plans and the drawings show that it is signage for Starbucks.

7 Market Place is the former home of Barclays bank and is the majestic building that stands on the corner of Market Place and Coventry Street. As we reported in our newsletter, the Grade II listed building was home to the bank before it announced it was to move to the Ropewalk Shopping Centre in September 2020. The application contains no details about the Starbucks restaurant itself but shows that signage would be in place.

It also explains: “New individually lit lettering 50 mm deep x 200 mm high to read `STARBUCKS` to main fascia.

New internally illuminated blade sign double sided with Starbucks brand siren to both faces 450 mm diameter.” The application is now being looked at by members of the planning team at the Town Hall. As part of this public consultation is held and people can find out more about the proposal by looking on the council website, under the planning applications section with reference number 039278.

The target date for when a decision will be made about the application is January 6.
