The Coca-Cola Christmas truck is coming to Manchester

Get your skates on.

The arrival of the Coca-Cola Christmas advert is always the klaxon to suggest that the festive season has properly arrived – and the iconic truck is going on tour. It was announced last week that the big festive truck would be visiting cities around the UK this winter. But the exact locations and dates are finally being revealed.

The fizzy drink giant has been drip-feeding its upcoming tour dates and has at last announced when it will roll into Manchester. The Coca-Cola Christmas truck is set to park up in our home city on Friday 2 December – so it’s not a lot of advance warning.

It will be at Asda Sportcity, just north of the city centre. The truck is on a mission to visit as many cities around the UK as possible as part of ‘The Magic of Giving’ Christmas campaign.

There’ll be a ‘magical winter market’ setting with activities, festive food huts, an ‘elfie selfie’ photo opportunity and a chance to purchase personalised Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Coca-Cola Original Taste.

Every visit made to the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck will also help to support people experiencing food poverty, with the brand working with FareShare. It will be donating the equivalent of up to 100,000 meals to those in need throughout the festive season.

Coca-Cola is also collaborating with the Royal National Institute of Blind People and NaviLens to make its Christmas packaging accessible for blind and partially sighted people.

Watch the moment random locals are surprised by a live band in a Stockport Maccies

Danny Jones Danny Jones Live band at Stockport Maccies

There are a lot of bizarre scenes taking place in almost every McDonald’s across Britain on any given day, but seeing a live band in a Stockport Maccies in the middle of the day is definitely up there. SK locals were simply taking a break from their Christmas shopping when they were taken aback by The Function Band who are helping spread festive cheer at various golden arches and homes throughout the country.

McDonald’s ‘Reindeer Ready’ campaign kicked off earlier this week and will be running throughout the rest of the holidays, with performers, Maccies employees and customers all getting involved. Here’s how hungry Stopfordians along Merseyway and at home reacted to the surprise performances:

We can’t get over the random limbo challenge — not sure that would go down so smoothly on a random Friday night at the Grand Central one. The best part about this campaign, for us, is that the fast food chain are also going around the UK and surprising even more unsuspecting families with Christmas carols on the doorstep and free McDelivery following a competition organised via the app.

Evie Edwards, a 17-year-old employee who was there on the day, said: “I couldn’t believe it when the band started popping up all over the restaurant singing all the classics… It was so surreal and such a treat – I thought I was coming in for an extra shift and instead received an experience of a lifetime. “As a singer myself I had entered a McDonald’s crew competition, but never in a million years expected to win.

Getting to stand up and sing with the band was a dream come true.”

The Christmas Carolling experience is the latest part of the brand’s ‘Alternative Christmas List’, delivering six different experiences ahead of 25 December in the hopes of adding some festive fun to this busy and often stressful time of the year before the big day. The final instalment will be shared on ReindeerReady.co.uk on Saturday 17 December, so keep your eyes peeled for whatever they have in store next. The Function Band’s Stockport Maccies set might not be their last this holiday season.

GBP60k of fake perfume that may contain ‘harmful chemicals’ and urine seized from Counterfeit Street

Police have issued a fresh warning after seizing around GBP60,000 worth of fake perfumes from Cheetham Hill’s ‘Counterfeit Street’. It’s believed that the fragrances may contain harmful chemicals and even human urine.

Two commercial premises on the notorious shopping street were raided earlier this week, with 400 perfume bottles, seven tonnes of counterfeit clothing, accessories and wireless earphones seized. The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) at the City of London Police, who worked with Greater Manchester Police’s Operation Vulcan and other agencies, have now warned Christmas shoppers of the risks associated with too-good-to-be-true bargain goods. Samples previously seized have included chemicals including cyanide, and human urine.

Similar toxic substances, plus arsenic, mercury and lead, have been found in cosmetics such as eyeliner, mascara, lip gloss and foundation. All of these can cause allergic reactions such as skin irritation, swelling, rashes and burns.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Hussey, from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), said: “The lower price of counterfeit beauty products make them an appealing option to shoppers in the run up to Christmas, particularly at a time when cost-of-living pressures have increased. “Those involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit goods are taking advantage of this and making huge profits in the process.

These products are often untested and unregulated, showing that counterfeiters have little regard for the safety of the people who end up using them.”

One man was arrested after a residential address was also searched – he’s since been released under investigation.
