A46 Stoneleigh junction closure delay as new bridge deck works halted
A key part of the GBP38 million A46 Stoneleigh junction works have been delayed to cut disruption over Christmas. The new bridge deck was due to be moved into place this month, but Warwickshire County Council has taken the decision to postpone it until the New Year. Now closures will be in place along the A46 between January 17 and 22 to allow for the new bridge deck to be moved into position.
The county council has said that further details on the extent of closures and their timings will be provided closer to the move in the new year. But it has stressed that, on the stated days, diversion routes will be well-signposted throughout the local network. READ MORE:Coca Cola Christmas Truck Tour coming to Coventry
Cllr Wallace Redford, cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “These closures are essential in order to allow for delivery and installation of the bridge deck, which forms part of the Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme. We would like to sincerely thank local residents for their continued patience with these essential developments to the junction, which forms part of this council’s commitment to ensuring that residents are supported through excellent transport infrastructure.” The overall aim of the Stoneleigh Junction scheme is to reduce the regular delays and queuing traffic, improve road safety and ensure that it has enough capacity to cope with growth across the region.
It is being funded by Warwickshire County Council, The Department for Transport, the West Midlands Combined Authority with developer contributions from the University of Warwick and Whitley South Works through the Coventry and Warwickshire Development Partnership.
