M25 lorry fire left truck ‘welded’ to road
Two lanes closed on M25 but still slow traffic and congestion
The M25 has now partly reopened following the lorry fire this morning. A DNA delivery lorry was left a burnt-out shell following the blaze and a clean-up operation is currently in place after diesel spewed across the motorway. There is some good news for motorists, though, with the motorway fully reopened from junction 10 on the anticlockwise carriageway.
Two lanes remain closed between junction 9, Leatherhead, and junction 8, Reigate. Transport data firm Inrix said:
Two lanes closed and slow traffic due to fuel, debris and surface damage on road and earlier lorry fire on M25 anticlockwise between J9 A243 (Leatherhead) and J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate). The M25 was closed for eight hours until just after just after 12pm.
Lanes three and four (of four) now open past the scene, but it will take hours to clean-up and resurface (after the fire welded the lorry to the tarmac).
