Police make two arrests after car smashes into Leeds house
Police have said two people were arrested after a car smashed into a Leeds house and caused serious damage yesterday. Residents were in shock when just after 9am on Tuesday, December 27, a car came off the road and crashed through front gardens on Roundhay Grove. The car damaged another vehicle, a first house, and then landed in the window of a second house.
West Yorkshire Police have now announced that one man in the car, 31, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs as well as drugs offences. A second man was also arrested and has been charged with possession of a controlled drug. Read more: Leeds dad-of-two paralysed in mountain bike crash with tree spends 6 months in hospital
The residents of the second house, which suffered more serious damage, were not in at the time. The residents of the first home told LeedsLive yesterday the ‘house shook’ on impact – thankfully no one was injured in the incident. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to Roundhay Grove at 9.25am on Tuesday to a report a car had crashed into the front of an unoccupied house.
Following enquiries, a 31-year-old man in the car was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs and drugs offences. “A second man was arrested and later charged with possession of a controlled drug. Enquiries remain ongoing.”
Police arrived at the scene yesterday and cordoned off the affected area. Removal trucks later arrived around 1pm to lift the crashed car out of the house it had hit. Residents of the street are calling for measures to control how fast people go down the street – with several saying there have been accidents before.
It is also thought ice on the road at the time may have contributed to the crash.
