Libertine Burger, a burger company with a restaurant on Warwick Street in Leamington, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the West Midlands region of the Just Eat Restaurant Awards. If it wins the regional final, it will progress in the competition and compete to be awarded the title of ‘Best Takeaway in Britain’. There are currently two branches of Libertine Burger, one in Leamington and one in Rugby, and it is looking to open a third.

It also employs a food truck that tours UK festivals, and it sends burger kits across the country to people’s homes. The other three shortlisted restaurants are Nuneaton’s Pizza Pazzo, Birmingham’s Dolce Desserts, and Island Lounge, a Caribbean establishment in Wednesbury. The shortlist for each region was chosen by a panel of independent judges.

The winner will be determined based on the original awards submission, as well as a mixture of customer reviews, commercial factors and a visit by a mystery shopper. Owner Charles Harris said: “What an accolade to be shortlisted among the best takeaways in the West Midlands. “We’re overjoyed and excited that our burgers have been recognised as up there with the best.

“Obviously we want to give it our best shot to win the big one – Best Takeaway in Britain. All you have to do is head to www.justeatrestaurantawards.co.uk to vote for us.” Voting for the Just Eat Restaurant Awards is open until 18 December and the winners will be announced on 21 February next year at an awards ceremony in London.

The restaurant has an impressive awards pedigree. It has reached the National Burger Awards finals three times, and was crowned UK winners in 2019. In 2021, it made it to the finals of both the British Street Food Awards and the Street Food Championships.

A 2020 investigation by the Coventry Telegraph found that Libertine Burger had been ranked Warwickshire’s best burger restaurant, then boasting a 4.7 (out of 5) star rating from 413 reviews.
