M3 convoy had 100ft long lorries and ‘amazing’ drivers
Police have praised the skills of the ‘amazing’ lorry drivers in a convoy of 100-foot long HGVs on the M3 in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, January 18). Officers from Surrey’s roads policing teams escorted the five 110 tonne lorries as they headed from the M3 to Laleham. Carrying bridge parts, the convoy made its way from the motorway to their eventual destination without any hiccups.
The abnormal loads were a sight to behold as they made their way northwards. And police were impressed with the way the lorry drivers handled their abnormal loads. A video clip on the force’s Roads Policing team’s Twitter account showed one of the lorries having to negotiate a tricky manoeuvre on a main thoroughfare.
The tweet read: “Tonight we escorted five of these in convoy from the M3 to Laleham. “Each truck weighed about 110 tonnes & was close to 100 ft long. The amazing drivers having to reverse into one junction to turn into another as it was not possible to turn left.”
