Tragedy as man dies in M1 lorry crash as police issue statement

A man has tragically died following a lorry crash on the M1 yesterday. West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to the smash, which happened just before 10am on January 31 on the M1 Southbound, just before junction 39 near Wakefield. One large goods vehicle was travelling along the first lane of the motorway when it began to slow down.

It then hit the nearside barrier and veered across all the Southbound lanes before coming to a stop at the central reservation. Read More: The faces of the criminals locked up in Yorkshire in January 2023 Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.

Sadly, the lorry driver, a man in his 60s, was pronounced as dead at the scene. It was originally reported that two other HGVs were involved but, following investigations by police, they have confirmed they were not. The force are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
