Beyton – Man dies following A14 collision

A 53-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision on the A14 near Beyton.

Police were called just after 6pm yesterday, Thursday 30 March, to reports of a three-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway, involving two lorries and a van, near the roadworks.

The East of England ambulance service, air ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews were also in attendance, but the driver of the van was sadly declared deceased at the scene.

One of the lorry drivers was taken to West Suffolk Hospital as a precaution. The other driver sustained no injury.

A man aged in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.

The eastbound carriageway of the A14 remains closed and is expected to remain closed for some time.

The westbound carriageway reopened shortly before 6:15am this morning, Friday 31 March.

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision and ask that any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle to review the footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, quoting CAD 342 of yesterday, 30 March.
