Fleet of fire engines called to The Crown after blaze at derelict pub

Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze at a derelict pub on Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called to the Crown Pub on Linthorpe[1] Road, in Middlesbrough[2], after a blaze broke out on the fourth floor at around 4.41pm. One room sustained severe smoke damage and a sofa was damaged.

Cleveland Fire Brigade[3] has since confirmed they sent seven fire engines to the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

A brigade spokesperson said: "We were called on 28/03/2023 at 16.41 to an incident at Crown House on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough. Seven fire engines were in attendance from Grangetown[5], Hartlepool[6], Middlesbrough and Thornaby[7].

"Two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and positive pressure ventilation were used. Fire on 4 th floor in hotel room with kitchenette. 50% fire damage to settee, 100% severe smoke damage to room.1 person released from 1 st floor.

"Investigation ongoing as per our usual procedure. We left the scene by 18.43. "
