Ford Sierra Cosworth driver floors it at 104mph in 30mph street

A driver in a Ford Sierra Cosworth was caught going over 100mph in a 30mph limit.

Police have handed the driver a notice after the car was reportedly seen reaching speeds of 104mph along Albert Royds Street in Rochdale. The legal limit for the road is 30mph.

Manchester Evening News[1] report that traffic officers ‘believe this is one of the highest speeds recorded for a Ford Sierra Cosworth’. Now, the driver of the vintage sports car has been handed a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution is issued by the police to a registered driver of a car, informing them that they could be prosecuted for the offence.

Ronnie Neilson, Chief Inspector at Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) traffic unit, said: “We regularly carry out mobile speed checks and will always listen to the public and our partners if they have concerns about a particular road or stretch of road.

“This is just one step towards tackling speeding and anti-social driving, it is our main priority to ensure we keep people safe on the city’s roads. GMP will not allow the safety of our roads to be threatened by dangerous drivers, and appropriate against will always be taken when offences are committed.”
