Huge police presence at Harlow pond as marine unit continue …

Another pond is being searched in an Essex town as part of an ongoing murder investigation in Essex. There has been a huge police presence at a pond near Katherine’s Way in Harlow this weekend as a marine unit searches a pond as part of a murder investigation into the death of Phillip Lewis.

59-year-old Lewis’ body was found in Oakwood Pond in Harlow on New Year’s Eve, and during the investigation into Lewis’ murder, five ponds and reservoirs have been searched. Some have even been drained of water. Now, Church End Pond is being examined in relation to this investigation.

Police have confirmed that this is a new, sixth, pond they are searching, and it is in relation to the investigation into Lewis’ murder. The remains of the 59-year-old were first identified as a “suspicious object” by police after their discovery by a family walking their dog.

Further investigation led to Mr Lewis’ identity being confirmed and his next of kin being informed. Essex Police have since been investigating the pond and surrounding woodland in Harlow since the discovery, which included marine units sweeping the woods and then also draining the pond completely to ensure any evidence inside was recovered.

The police originally confirmed on January 17 that work at Oakwood Pond had been completed. The force has charged a man with Mr Lewis’ murder.

Lee Clarke, 52 of Wedhey, Harlow has since been remanded into custody and will next appear in court on August 21.
