Man fighting for life in hospital after car hits tree and bursts into flames

A man in his 20s is fighting for his life after a horror crash on Sunday.[1]

At around 8.10am on Sunday, March 26, a white Nissan 307Z crashed into a tree on Hall Field Lane, Royston, Wakefield before bursting into flames.

Two people, a male driver and female passenger, who is also in her 20s, were rushed to hospital via air ambulance with serious injuries. The man's injuries have been described as life-threatening. He remains in hospital.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police[3], firefighters, and an air ambulance raced to the scene of the crash in Hall Field Lane in the Havercroft area. Hall Field Lane was closed as the emergency services worked at the scene.

In an update on Monday, March 27, a spokesperson for WYP said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious injury collision in Wakefield. It happened at about 8.10am on Sunday (March 26) when a white Nissan 307Z collided with a tree as it drove along Hall Field Lane, towards Royston.

"The male driver, a man in his twenties, suffered injuries which are described as life threatening. His female passenger, who is also in her twenties, suffered serious injuries."

They added: "Anyone who witnessed the vehicle’s driving prior to the collision or who has footage that will assist is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101, or by using the LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log 0363 of 26 March."
