Two people were taken to hospital after a car crashed into a tree and burst into flames[1].

Officers from West Yorkshire Police[2], firefighters, and an air ambulance raced to the scene of the crash in Hall Field Lane in the Havercroft area of Wakefield. The car is thought to have struck a tree and burst into flames.

Hall Field Lane was closed as the emergency services worked at the scene. Tonight a West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that two people, a man, and a woman, were injured and taken to hospital. Details about their condition have not been released.

The collision is understood to have happened at around 8 this morning.

An air ambulance landed at the scene and firefighters attended from several nearby stations.

Traffic monitor Inrix, in an update posted at 12.2pm, said: “Both directions closed due to a serious accident, a car hitting a tree involved from Brierley turn off to Shafton turn off.

“A car crashed into a tree and had caught fire. The road is looking to remain closed until this evening. Affecting traffic between Fitzwilliam and Havercroft.”

West Yorkshire Police have described the incident as a serious road traffic collision.
