A traffic diversion route is in place as the A1 remains closed following a police incident in Cambridgeshire today (Saturday, April 15). Both the northbound and southbound stretches of the dual carriageway have been shut since around 8.15am.
Emergency services remain at the scene. The closure is currently in place between the A428 at Wyboston and the A14[1] at Brampton.
National Highways has confirmed that traffic[2] diversions are in place for both the northbound and southbound carriageways as a result of the closure. Drivers are being advised to factor extra time into their journeys.

A spokesperson said: “The A1[4] in Cambridgeshire is closed in both directions between the A428 at Wyboston and the A14[5] at Brampton due to a Cambridgeshire Police led incident. Emergency services are in attendance. National Highways contractors will be attending to assist with traffic management.”
A1 diversion routes:
Northbound traffic is advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol: Exit the A1 northbound at the A428 junction at Wyboston. Join the A428 eastbound and continue towards Caxton Gibbet.
At the junction withthe B1040 at Eltisley turn left and join the B1040 and continue northbound until the junction with the A1198 near Papworth Everard. Join the A1198 and continue northbound until the A14 J23. Join the A14 westbound and continue onward to then re-join the A1 northbound at Brampton
Southbound traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol: Exit the A1 southbound at Brampton Hut interchange and join the A14 eastbound at J21. Continue on the A14 eastbound until J23. Exit the A14 and join the A1198 southbound. Continue on the A1198 towards Papworth Everard. Continue around Papworth Everard on the A1198 until the roundabout with the A428. Join the A428 westbound and continue onward towards Wyboston to then re-join the A1 southbound.
