Adrian Stocks named as tragic cyclist killed by overtaking Audi in …

A cyclist who was hit by a car and killed on a Yorkshire road was a dad of three from Menston, near Ilkley.

Adrian Stocks, 59, died at the scene of the collision on Denton Road, Ilkley, on Sunday, April 2[1], at around 5pm. Mr Stocks had signalled to turn right over Denton Bridge when he was struck by a blue Audi that was overtaking another car, police said.

Mr Stocks, along with his wife Della, are directors of award-winning Cliffe House Day Nurseries which has children’s nurseries in Shipley, Pudsey, Bramhope, Baildon, Burley in Wharfedale and Horsforth.

The couple set up the business when they were searching for childcare for their own three children. An inquest into Mr Stocks’ death is expected to be opened on May 5 in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate what happened. Earlier this month the force released a statement about the tragedy and the arrest of two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The police statement said: “Two cars, a blue Audi Q2 and a white Skoda were travelling eastbound along Denton Road, near Ilkley, when the collision happened. The cyclist had signalled to turn right over Denton Bridge, when the blue Audi, which was behind the white Skoda attempted to overtake, colliding with the cyclist.

“Both occupants of the Audi, two men from Bradford aged 19 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision, the blue Audi, the cyclist or who may have any dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles prior to the incident, to come forward.”

Anyone with any information or footage is urged to preserve the footage and contact Noth Yorkshire Police quoting reference 12230058592, or email [email protected][3].
