Aftermath images show engine laying on M6 carriageway as lorry …
Dramatic images have shown the aftermath of a motorway crash which has caused long delays today. A lorry crashed into a car before bursting into flames this morning (April 16).
An air ambulance landed at the scene following the crash at around 11.40am. Emergency personnel have been working at the scene on the M6 northbound ever since.
The crash occurred between J12 for Cannock and J13 for Stafford. Road users were pictured walking on the motorway as the traffic remained gridlocked.
Other drivers were turned away from the slip-road. The condition of those involved in the crash is not yet known.
But images show the lorry cab separated from the rest of the vehicle. Another displays an engine sitting on the tarmac.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J12 and J13 due to a road traffic collision involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle which has overturned and caught fire.
“Central Motorway Police Group, Fire & Rescue, Air Ambulance and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene. The southbound carriageway has been released.
“Traffic within the northbound closure is currently being released past the scene.”
