Air ambulance called to serious M5 crash in Somerset

An air ambulance has been called to a serious M5 crash in Somerset this evening. The two-car collision happened between the Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare junctions.

The smash which happened at around 4.30pm has caused stationary traffic and long delays. The motorway was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land.

Delays of around 50 minutes are reported in the area. Emergency services including Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene.

Traffic service Inrix reports: “M5 in both directions blocked, stationary traffic due to serious accident, two cars involved from J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare). To allow an air ambulance following an accident that happened on the southbound side.”

The M5 crash in Somerset happened shortly before another collision in Worcestershir[2]e. This collision, which happened at around 4.45pm, is causing delays southbound between junctions six for Worcester and junction seven for Evesham.

Inrix says of this incident: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M5 Southbound from J6 A4538 Pershore Lane (Worcester) to J7 A44 (Worcester / Evesham). Lanes one (of four) is closed for the accident. Lane four is already closed for long term road works.”
