All the M6 Junction 10 closures taking place in April

Motorists are set to face delays this month with a number of closures happening at Junction 10 of the M6.[1] Work is currently underway to improve the road layout amid problems with traffic congestion.

The busy roundabout, in Walsall[2], is being expanded from two to four lanes and its slip roads are being revamped. As part of the ongoing work, National Highways is closing some of the junction’s slip roads, and surrounding motorway lanes, this month.

A spokesperson for the highway agency said: “We’re sorry for the disruption this work may cause to your journey and encourage drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling. We’ll aim to reopen the roads sooner if we complete our work earlier than expected. Please note that these closures are subject to change at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances or poor weather conditions.”

Closures are in place today, April 14, and there will be others this month. See the list of closures below, according to the National Highways website:

  • Lane closures on M6 southbound between Junction 11 and 10 (today, April 14, and from Monday, April 17, to Wednesday, April 19, 9pm until 5am each day)
  • Lane closures on M6 northbound between Junction 9 and 10 (today, April 14, and from Monday, April 17, to Wednesday, April 19, 9pm until 5am each day)
  • Full closure of Junction 10’s southbound exit slip road (today and Wednesday, April 19, from 9pm until 5am)
  • Full closure of the Junction 10’s northbound entry slip road (today and Wednesday, April 19, from 9pm until 5am)
  • Full closure of Junction 10’s northbound exit slip road (Monday, April 17, to Tuesday, April 18, 9pm until 5am)
  • Full closure of Junction 10’s southbound entry slip road (Monday, April 17, to Tuesday, April 18, 9pm until 5am)

Part of the project has seen the demolition of two 50-year-old bridges for newer, bigger ones. While the project is set to improve life for motorists using Junction 10, residents living nearby previously told BlackCountryLive they have battled with noise and pollution. One woman said her curtains have been stained.[4]

There is no clear date when the project will finish but National Highways estimate it will be sometime in 2023.
