Biker killed after being run over by pickup truck in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A biker is dead after being run over by a pickup truck in Cape Coral on Friday afternoon.

This happened on Cultural Park Boulevard. Right off of Southeast First Terrace.

Investigators haven’t confirmed who died or if the driver was in fact speeding. But video shows a small bike laying in the road, stuck under the red pickup truck’s wheel. Next to it was a pair of child-size shoes.

A traffic homicide unit responded to the scene.

Brett Vandyke is a neighbor who said he witnessed the crash.

“As you can see there’s a hill right here that people fly over. The guy was flying over the hill in the left lane and he killed him. It looked like a boy, he was about 11 years old and he just lost his life because of this hill that I’ve been complaining about over and over again,” Vandyke said. “This isn’t an exaggeration…this is real. Every day they’re riding 100 miles plus down this road.”

NBC2 reached out to the Cape Coral Police Department to see if the driver is facing charges. We have not heard back from them at this time.

“We need to start the million-man march before we have a million dead children. I think to handle it they could definitely put a traffic light on Cultural Park over here, especially where that kid got hit,” Vandyke said.
