Biker who died in three-vehicle crash named by family

A man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Derbyshire[1] has been named as 28-year-old Benjamin Clarke. Ben, as he was, known, was an avid biker and had been riding on his Suzuki when he was involved in a collision with a Range Rover and a Dacia Sandero not far from Duffield[2] at just after 1.50pm on Sunday, April 2.

His family have now set up a GoFundMe to try and raise money for his funeral and for his partner Sophie. The description on the fundraiser describes her as his "soulmate" and explains that the two had their life planned out together.

The keen rugby player also leaves behind his father Mick, stepmum Julie, sisters Tasha and Emma and the two cats and a horse that he took care of with Sophie. So far, the family have raised £3,043 from 92 donations.

The crash occurred on the B5023, at the junction with Johnson Lane at Idridgehay Green. An air ambulance[4] attended the scene.

As well as the GoFundMe, the money raised from which will go to "giving him the ride off he deserves" and to "help his partner Sophie carry on with life and not have to worry financially through this awful time". The family also plan to raise money through charity events to help raise money for the air ambulance, who they say "went above and beyond to try and save Ben’s life."

After the crash, the B5023 was closed and remained so until around midnight. As of Monday, April 3, Derbyshire police[5] were still appealing for witnesses and for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling along the B5023 between 1pm and 2pm on April 2.
