Car boot traffic warning as more sales open for season this weekend

Traffic queues at car boot hotspots around Birmingham are expected to build as more bargain hunters join in the season’s action. Motorists were stuck in jams[1] around Dark Lane in Hollywood for Maypole Car Boot’s first gathering of the year last Sunday(April 9).

Repeat scenes are expected from as early as 7.30am this Sunday, April 16, near West Heath[2]. Other car boots holding their first shopping events this weekend will be at Hindlip off the M5 Junction 6 for Worcester.

It opens at 9am tomorrow, Sunday, but queues form from as early as 8am. The M42 at J9 near Tamworth[3] on Sunday will also be busy for the giant car boot run by ebookers.

In previous years, organisers have used an air horn to signal the start[5] and held back shoppers hungry for a bargain from ravaging sellers.

Shorthill car boot in Kidderminster[6] is set to take place on Sundays. Northfield residents will have to wait another week as Hoggs Lane car boot in the south Birmingham suburb reopens for the new season on Saturday April 22.

A giant car boot by Eboot Markets kicked off the season for bargain hunters last weekend at Hams Lane in Lea Marston, which will be held every Saturday.

There is also another one held near The Belfry in Fazeley Road, off the M42 J9 on Sundays.

Bromsgrove will be holding a car boot sale in Old Burcot Lane, off the A38, but not until 9am on Sunday May 21.

Busy scenes over the opening weekend showed there was still an appetite for the outdoor sales. With the cost of living crisis, car boots are expected to be more popular than ever this Spring and Summer.
