CAR CLOG: Vehicles on Croxley roads cause major problems – My …
Residents have been left frustrated with a business parking multiple large cars on the streets of Croxley.
Multiple SUV-type vehicles have been parked on Links Way, Warwick Way, Baldwins Lane, Richmond Way and other roads in the village, leaving little room on pavements for pedestrians and restricting space for other drivers.
After receiving several complaints, councillor Chris Lloyd identified the business responsible as Northgate Vehicle Hire.
He stated: “I have been pushing for cars to be moved, but then others seem to appear to replace them.
“Although Northgate tell me that by the end of 2023 they are hoping to open a new premises to solve the problem, this is far too long to wait.
“I am pressing for action now and have been chasing Northgate almost every day about their anti-social parking of vehicles.”
Paul Hughes, a resident on one of these roads, says he has tried to get something done about the problem, but so far has had no success.
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, he said: “Getting out of Links Way is pretty horrible. At some point, there’s going to be a nasty accident.
“I went to Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) and the police and they all passed me to one another. No one seems interested, and because there’s no double yellow lines, they won’t do anything.
“There’s a man up the road who can’t get his wheelchair-bound mother through the street as the pavement has no room.
“I don’t want to be the person that hears about an accident, knowing that something could have been done to prevent it.”
Paul added that the issues on Warwick Way have only been a recent development, but the problems on Baldwins Lane have been going on a lot longer, and it is the parking there that he is most concerned about.
He explained: “It reduces the number of parking spaces for the shops and parents doing the drop-off to Croxley Danes School.”
Another resident, Martyn Simister, said that due to the number of parked cars on his street, his bins were not collected as the refuse lorry couldn’t fit down the road.
He said: “I appreciate that these cars are probably taxed, so legally they are not breaking the law, but they are being very inconsiderate.”
A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Police are aware of issues with anti-social parking in the Croxley area and have been working with local partners to address the concerns.
“Local Safer Neighbourhood Team officers have issued tickets where vehicles have caused an obstruction, such as where a vehicle is blocking a lowered kerb. Officers have also visited local businesses and spoken to owners to give them words of advice about parking.
“They continue to monitor the situation and have liaised with the local council, HCC and Hertfordshire Highways with the aim of identifying further long-term solutions.”
A spokesperson for Northgate said: “We were made aware that there had been complaints around the parking of vehicles from our Watford branch. We have met with a local councillor to identify the problem, and we have been in regular contact with him as we have secured additional parking for this branch, which has already seen vehicles moving from the area. We’d like to thank the councillor for their time and are working hard towards a swift resolution of this matter. “
HCC and TRDC have also been contacted for comment.
