Car tax warning for drivers as some will see ?240 a year increase in …
Car drivers are being warned of potentially huge road tax rises this month[1]. Some motorists will have to pay up to £240 a year more due to the rule changes.
The rises are linked to CO2 emissions, and apply to thousands in Leicestershire and millions more across the country. The warning affects drivers of cars registered between 2001 and 2017, reports LincolnshireLive[2].
Charges are set to increase across the board for nearly all diesel and petrol vehicles.
People who have vehicles in the 52 to 75 CO2 tax emissions band[4] will see their tax increase by £5 this year, to £30. However, it is those in group 255 CO2 that will be hit hardest, with their tax set to rise by £240 this year, resulting in a tax bill of £2,605 per year.
People whose cars were registered between March 2001 and April 2017 will see payments rise too – up to £695 per year. The figure is £729.75 if paid in 12, monthly instalments.
Failing to tax a vehicle before its expiration can result in fines of up to £1,000. Failure to tax a vehicle could also void a driver’s insurance.
